Effective Navigation Solution for UK-based Drivers

Today, there exist many tools to help navigate from place to place, but finding an app that's both easy to use and accurate is still a challenge. The client from the UK saw a real opportunity for digital solutions in this area. He approached Requestum with a plan for a basic version of the product, already having potential customers interested in it.

Challenges

At the beginning of our cooperation, we identified the crucial challenges to tackle:

Own routing engine

Developing own routing engine utilizing an Open Source Routing Machine (OSRM) to ensure precise and efficient navigation;

Navigation process

Implementing a third-party solution to integrate all UK addresses with their corresponding postcodes, thereby streamlining and simplifying the navigation process;

Useful for drivers

Designing and creating an application with a focus on user interface (UI) and user experience (UX), ensuring it is convenient and useful for drivers.

By recognizing and giving priority to these challenges, we established a solid groundwork for our project.

Solution

We proposed the inclusion of potential customers in our workshop sessions. Initially, our client was hesitant about this approach, but we persisted, believing in its value. This decision proved to be immensely beneficial. Through several collaborative brainstorming sessions with the client, we were able to finalize an initial set of features focused on addressing the most urgent challenges.

Features

Following our main goals, we added features one by one to the custom software system we built from scratch.

Single destination

This feature offers a straightforward one-way route, guiding users from the current location to the destination they've searched for using the postcode.

Route planner

This mode enables users to input all their destinations and then creates the most efficient sequence to visit each one quickly.

Settings

In the settings, users have the flexibility to customize the route planner to suit their needs:

Select the preferred map type;
Configure the route builder for either a round trip or a one-way journey;
Choose from various navigation maps like Google Maps, Waze, Apple Maps, and more

As a result, we created a do-it-all tool for UK drivers, making it easier for them to get around.
